In the event of a hard disk failure, Promise relieves the user of most of the work needed to restore the array. As soon as a new drive is installed and recognized by the controller, the card automatically starts a rebuild. This is an excellent idea since "only" four SATA ports are provided. With multi-channel controllers, the rebuild drive should be selected manually, as newly installed drives may also be used for other arrays.
