Eye Candy: Stereo 3D Imaging

3D Terms

2D

Displaying the two dimensions height and width.

3D

Displaying the three dimensions height, width and depth. Normally, "3D" refers to the real spatial display based on the three-dimensional coordinate system. However, the term "3D" is often used by marketing departments, especially in the IT sector, when they really mean displays that are actually only two-dimensional but instead give a certain spatial impression to objects by projection. This is also referred to as 3D display through 2D projection .

4D

Because of the confusing and sometimes misleading use of the term "3D" some software and hardware products are labeled as "4D" to draw attention to the fact that they have NOTHING to do with "3D display through 2D projection."

Stereo 3D

Because of the confusing and sometimes misleading use of the term "3D", "stereo" is used to express that two slightly different views are supplied for the right and left eyes. "Stereo" gets its name from the dual-channel audio technology that uses slightly different acoustic content for the right and the left ears.
