HP has announced the price for its Surface rival, the Envy x2. A high-end tablet-laptop hybrid running Microsoft's just-released Windows 8 operating system, it's priced at $849.99, HP claims this high-end "hybrid PC" packs the "power of a notebook and the freedom of a tablet."
The HP Envy x2 is powered by an Intel 1.8GHz Z2760 processor, while the 11.6-inch screen (which can be detached to become a standalone tablet) boasts a 1,366 x 768 pixel resolution. It's got a full-size keyboard with a large trackpad dubbed the 'Imagepad,' several ports (USB, HDMI and SD card slots), Beats Audio, HD Webcam, NFC technology and an 8-megapixel camera.
The HP Envy x2 is expected to arrive in the States a couple of weeks from now, on November 14, which should give Microsoft's Surface a headstart. Speaking at a Gartner conference, HP CEO Meg Whitman criticized Surface by saying it "doesn't function like a laptop" and "lacks a keyboard you can do real work on."

aracheb punahou1I'm confused - I thought HP got out of the tablet business...this is misstyped it is supposed to be a slate..Reply
the got out of the table business but not the slate business
which is a table with real os. This only help them to keep saying that they don't make table, only slate. -
ethanolson You missed the most important part: the keyboard has an extra battery in it to get you awesome battery life.Reply -
None of the announced Clovertrail powered laptops / slates are over 1366x786 res. The lower resolution and low power CPU is one of the ways to keep performance snappy and the battery life at unheard of levels for a slate. These aren't machines for playing Skyrim. They are great for portability, versatility, media consumption, and basic office productivity. Want more power? Try the Samsung ATIV Smart PC Pro 700T. $1200.Reply

assasin32 Think they threw into too many gadgets which shot the price up. They should have kept a price tag at around $500 and ripped out the NFC, hd webcam, 8meg camera, beats audio, etc to bring the price down. As no matter how you look at it, it is still running a Atom CPU which isn't much and those neat little gadgets mean nothing majority of the time.Reply
Had they did that and delivered a striped down netbook/tablet at that price point than it would look good.
