ATI releases Catalyst 5.1 driver, supports 64-bit architectures under Linux

ATI published a new version of its Catalyst driver package on its website.

The Linux Version includes x86_64 support for XFree86 4.3 and X.org 6.8. According to ATI, the drivers work in combination with both AMD's and Intel's 64-bit architectures. The package also comes with a range of fixes that address dual head systems, video playback, PCI Express systems, hanging in RHEL 3.0, XVideo overlay, and display corruption when switching between X-Windows and the Linux text console.

The Windows part of Catalyst 5.1 now includes a Control Center for all Radeon cards, a feature to disable and pause the 3D preview, and Clone Mode resolution default setting. Fixes address mainly games such as Men of Valor (Radeon 8500, 9100), Myst URU Ages Beyond Myst (X800 XT PE), Richard Burns Rally (8500, 9100, 9200), and Sid Meier's Pirates (all Radeon cards). The driver also fixes problems with Microsoft's Windows XP Media Center Edition.

The driver can be downloaded from ATI's website. (THG)
