Intel Rigs Up: P4 Series with FSB800

New Prices For The P4: The Best Choice Is The 2.8 GHz

Intel processors have never been as affordable as they are now. $163 buys you a 2.4 GHz CPU, and for just $178 you can step up to the version with FSB 800 and Hyperthreading. At $193, the 2.6 GHz version is $25 more. However, we think the 2.8 GHz P4 should be your first choice, as it incorporates FSB 800 and Hyperthreading, and offers excellent potential for overclocking.

During our tests we were able to raise the core frequency from 2.8 GHz to 3.22 GHz (FSB speed of 230 MHz) at our first attempt and without any additional cooling. In other words, it was faster than the 3.0 GHz P4 retailing at $417. Our tests in June will show what the latest 3.2 GHz Northwood P4 is able to deliver.
