SAS Storage: High-Performance Hard Drives
I/O Performance: IOMeter
First things first: the quickest hard drives in terms of I/O performance is still the Seagate Savvio 15K.1, and neither of the new drives can change this. While the Hitachi Ultrastar 15K450 positions itself in the upper third of the test bed, Seagate’s Cheetah 15K.6 manages to take the position right behind its 2.5” brother Savvio 15K.1. Keep in mind that the Savvio 15K is only available at 36 GB and 73 GB, though, while the new Cheetah 15K.6 starts at 146 GB and goes all the way up to 450 GB capacity, which may be a significant advantage.
