FileFront Acquired by Founders, Staying Online

Next news
1:31 PM - April 2, 2009 by Jane McEntegart

Last week it was reported that the long time gaming file download repository, FileFront would be closing its doors at the end of the month, marking another victim of the ongoing recession.

“We regret to inform you that due to the current economic conditions we are forced to indefinitely suspend the FileFront site operations on March 30, 2009,” read the site’s farewell letter on March 24. “If you have uploaded files, images or posted blogs, or if you would like to download some of your favorite files, please take this opportunity to download them before March 30th when the site will be suspended.”

Yesterday a much cheerier message graced the site’s homepage. “FileFront has been acquired by the original founders of the site and will NOT be suspended as previously announced. This is NOT an April Fool's Joke,” it read. “After learning about Ziff Davis Media's plan to shut down FileFront at the end of March, the original founders of FileFront made the decision to buy it back from Ziff Davis Media,” the post went on to explain, all the while assuring hopeful users that FileFront would never, ever joke about shutting the site down and stressing that Ziff Davis Media had every intention of waving bye bye to the download site.

Finishing off with a warm, “Welcome home!” the staff vowed to improve the site even further and said it looked forward to serving the  gaming community for many more years.

Good news during a recession, this does make a change! Happy faces all around we assume? You guys seemed both shocked and saddened that the site was going to be closing down when we reported on this last week. Check out the full Welcome Home post by clicking here.

Yay! I don't use filefront often, but it is a huge repository of downloads and I'm glad to see it will still be there...

oh and first!

Well this is good news indeed! Don't want fileplanet to take over the whole gaming download industry and force more of their subscription fees through "open" betas and such...

Excellent! Filefront has a lot of hard to find content such as compatibility patches for old games etc. Glad to hear they are still afloat.

I only use FileFront, you never have to wait to download. It's always a competitor with Fileplanet. FileFront's download system is far superior by the mere fact you'll be downloading in less than 10 seconds, instead of FilePlanet's 1-30 minute wait time crap.

I hope that "The Founders" got it for 1$
Now that would be a good business deal, sell it when it's good for large $$$ and than buy it back for 1$ :D And the circle begins anew ;)

FileFront is my primary download site for game related stuff like maps. I really didn't want it to go down. Sites like FilePlanet annoy me. So this is really good news :)
