Apple Drops iPod Touch and Nano Prices

by - source: Tom's Hardware US

Well isn't this a nice little surprise for your Wednesday morning. Apple has dropped the prices of both the iPod Nano and the iPod Touch. The company also lopped a little off the price of an iPod Classic too.

In what's probably an attempt to sell off the old and make room for the new, Apple has cut the price of the iPod Touch, the iPod Nano and the iPod Classic. The 32 GB iPod Touch has gone from $400 to just $280, while the 16 GB and 8 GB versions have dropped to $250 and $190 (down from $300 and $230) respectively.

The 16 GB Nano has gone from $200 to $150 while the 8 GB model is now $130, down from $150. The iPod Classic has gone from $250 to $230.

The price cuts come on the same day that Apple is expected to announce a new camera-equipped iPod Touch and Nano. However, if the reaction in the comments is anything to go by, not too many of you are keen on the idea of an MP3 player with a camera, at least when it comes to the Nano. Given the choice, which would you purchase? Let us know in the comments below!

Why the F**k should i have a camera on my Digital Audio Player? I would really prefer support to codecs like Ogg, Flac, Mpc ecc ecc.

Good point, please support more audio codecs

Only bother with a camera if you are going to put an optical zoom on it

Peculiar. Apple typically does not include older versions of their products in their typical line up after a refresh. This makes me wonder if the new versions will just be minor refreshes with a camera, and thats it? Has Apple finally hit the peverbial brick wall with iPod advancements?

Wow for $30 more you can go from the 16 to 32 gig itouch. You would be stupid to get the 16 gig now.

Hmm... still not sure that an iGrenade is worth $280. Still needs work before I get my hands on one.

Not seeing this reflected anywhere yet... wonder how long it will take Amazon, etc. to ship them for even less...

They're probably trying to grab a little more market share before the Zune HD debuts next week and blows them out of the water.

a camera is so retarded. arguggi is right. its a frigging music player. but a radio receiver on the ipod.

and these price points are retarded. only $30 difference between 16 and 32GB?

Chances are your cell phone that was free and came with a camera will be more useful, convenient, and the cheaper deal. Although the iPhone camera imaging software is pretty cool to mess with. If the touch is anything like it, it may have a following for those that like to tinker and edit pictures and if it has the ability to take/edit movies like the iPhone 3s can.

So the pricing on the NEW Ipod Touch will still be the same as the old pricing, presumably...That seems to indicate a doubling of capacity, as they usualy do either of the two.

I'm still going with the Zune HD.

Zune HD got HD radio...and HD video playback...

i don't care to play games on iPod Touch....that's what my PSP is for...

I am also going with the zune hd.

My old zune worked better with my HTPC than my ipod ever did. I sold my ipod after 2 weeks and bought an archos 5. I will be buying the zune hd as my 3 year old takes over my archos during air travel.

I will never buy another ipod.

Does the Nano do wifi yet? That would be about 100,000x more useful than a camera.

They do this every year when they release new iPods. Price down the old ones to clear stock and make room for the new units. And I still can't believe people are bitching about a camera. I guarantee if the Zune HD had a camera it would be a nice feature well worth your time.

Always good to see prices dropping regardless of their motivation.

I've never owned an ipod, although I've bought them for family and friends. I just dislike Apple immensely and the type of people who buy their stuff.

If the only diff btw. the old touch and new touch is a camera, that's idiotic. Everyone has a camera already on their cell phones.

Now if they added stereo bluetooth I might be interested. Don't care about the camera.

I'll just wait for the Zii. The camera could be a nice feature depending on how it is implemented. The dual camera on the Zii is awesome. HD for recording and front-facing SD for video chat over Wi-Fi.

WHY!?

I bought an Ipod Touch 16 GB for $280 four months ago, now the 32 gb is the same price.
Awesome.

I would want a camera, if you are buying a touch, you are buying it more for its apps and other functionallity than for music. otherwise you'd get a classic, or if you weren't insane, an mp3 player from a GOOD company where you don't have to use itunes!
