Imation announces 4 GByte portable micro hard drive

Next news
5:49 PM - December 28, 2005 by The Editors of Tom's Hardware

Imation joins the array of manufacturers offering spacious microdrives as an option to Flash-based USB sticks. The devices, often based on 0.85" hard drives are currently available in 2, 4 and 8 GB capacities and typically offer twice the space of Flash memory device at a certain price point.

Imation's new micro hard drive offers 4 GB and relies on a Toshiba-built 0.85" drive. At a suggested retail of $190 it is pricey - regular 4 GByte micro drives from Seagate and Hitachi currently sell between $125 - $150 - but there is a USB cable and connector as well as an encryption feature that helps keeping stored data safe.
