On VR: An Interview With Starbreeze Studios (Video)

Tom's Hardware has been covering the Immersed VR/AR conference in Toronto this week, including demos and the panel that our own Alex Davies moderated. We're continuing our coverage with Kevin Carbotte's interview with Guillaume Gouraud of Starbreeze Studios (below).

Starbreeze is responsible for the upstart StarVR HMD -- a device we could see competing with the marquee HMDs from Oculus and HTC, although the timeline for its release is a ways off -- as well as the Walking Dead demo. (Tl;dr, it involves zombies and a shotgun in an immersive VR environment.)

Kevin and Guillaume talk about the StarVR's impressive FOV, its high-res displays, working with Tobii on eye tracking, and the company's intense desire (and patience) for getting the whole thing right.

(Watch until the end to get a heads up on a possible chance to see the StarVR headset in action in the U.S.)

I've had my DK2 for over a year now and i needs both higher resolution and FOV. Been watching these guys for a couple years now. I hope they succeed.

I believe they will succeed. They are approaching this in the right way. They want to make the best product possible, and take the time to get it right. They aren't rushing to market to catch up to Occulus and Vive, because they believe it needs to be a better experience.

by the time this comes to market, people who are into VR already, will likely be ready to upgrade to something better. I see VR headsets as somewhat of a shorterm product for the first couple generations. Maybe 2 to 3 year lifespan, somewhat like the average graphics card.

The version of this article on the UK site has no video. Posting this here because it tends to get ignored on the UK site. This has been happening for months.
