The HighPoint converter allows regular IDE hard disks to connect to a serial ATA controller.
The adapter needs a power source, otherwise it won't work.
HighPoint includes two adapters with the RocketRAID 1520 that allow Ultra ATA hard disks to be connected to the serial ATA bus. The manufacturer thus takes care of one of the possible worries of potential upgraders: existing devices will still work without any loss of performance.
