System Builder Marathon: Day 4

Conclusions

System Builders Matathon Cases: Coolermaster Centurion 5, SilverStone TEMJIN SST-TJ02SW, Lian Li PC-60A PlusII

Thomas Soderstrom:
Don was right about the bang-for-the-buck in his low-cost configuration choices, but a closer look at a few game benchmarks prove that "best value" doesn't always serve the purpose. And so the argument will continue between penny pinchers and enthusiasts, with the occasional ridiculous suggestion such as "buy a console".

Don Woligroski:
I guess all we can say at this point is that 'you get what you pay for'.
Of course, not everyone will agree that what you've pay for is worth the extra money. Even if you disagree with our choices, we've given you some useful numbers to look at which will hopefully help you decide if the PC you're planning to assemble is worth it to you.
As the Budget Gamer's Special shows, if you're building a PC specifically for gaming use, you'd probably be better off with something tailored specifically for that application. The same can be said for a computer that won't be used for games, but for Photoshop, or video editing or whatever else you need.
We'll look into a range of systems built for specific purposes in future System Builders Marathons. Stay tuned.
At the end of the day, a good deal or a bad deal will always be in the eye of the beholder.

Editor's Opinion

I am reminded of the phrase, "You get what you pay for".
