On Wednesday Lenovo "set the table" for more family time with the launch of its IdeaCentre Horizon, a 27-inch multi-user, multi-mode, multi-touch "Table PC" the company revealed back at CES 2013 in January. It will finally be available to purchase at Lenovo's website beginning April 16 with a starting price of $1,699.
"The Horizon Table PC brings people together in a totally new way, allowing up to four people to use it simultaneously, interacting with content and playing games with joysticks, strikers and e-dice," the company said. "Horizon fills a need to connect families around one device for a truly shared computing experience over the solitary computing nature of most other devices."
According to the spec sheet, this new All-In-One (AIO) "Table PC" provides a number of customization options including a choice of three processors: the Intel Core i3-3227U, the Core i5-3337U, or the i7-3537U, depending on your budget. Two SODIMM slots support up to 8 GB of DDR3 RAM at 1600 MHz, and GPU options include Nvidia's GeForce GT 620M with 1 GB of DDR3 VRAM or 2 GB.
On the storage front, there are three options including a 750 GB HDD, a 1 TB HDD, or a 1 TB HDD and 8 GB SSD combo. Also thrown into the mix is a 6-in-1 multi-card reader, an integrated 720p HD webcam with Mic Array, Bluetooth 4.0, and 802.11 b/g/n single-band wireless connectivity. Additional connectors include HDMI input, two USB 3.0 ports, and headphone and microphone jacks.
"Horizon’s supersized touch screen and dynamic graphics connects people like never before," the company said. "Just lay Horizon flat in Table PC mode to activate the Aura interface and begin interacting with other people and favorite content, from photos and videos to apps and games. Horizon’s multitouch screen makes playing customized games including Ubisoft’s Raiding Company, Draw Race 2 and King of the Opera and Electronic Art’s Monopoly fun."
The 27-inch display itself is LED-backlit, features a default resolution of 1920 x 1080, a 16:9 widescreen ratio, and support for 10 simultaneous touch inputs. Sound is provided by built-in speakers supporting Dolby Home Theater V4. Windows 8 is the OS of choice, so naturally the Table PC is optimized for Microsoft new touchy platform.
Lenovo's new Table PC also comes packed with a special set of on-the-glass accessories including an e-dice and up to four joysticks and strikers (no batteries required), compatible with games like Air Hockey, Raiding Company and Tycoon. Also included is Aura, a unique multi-user interface that allows two or more people to access different photos, videos and music on the same screen.
"Users can choose from a variety of service options for Horizon, including In-Home Warranty upgrades for on-site service and up to three years of warranty coverage as well as Lenovo Premium Support where expert technicians are available when needed via phone or remote session support," the company said.
