Phenom II X2 555 Vs. Pentium G6950: The Rematch
The last time we matched up Intel's Pentium G6950 against AMD's Phenom II X2 555, our overzealous overclocking efforts caused a processor meltdown. With a little more experience on Intel's 32 nm process (and caution), we offer a suitable rematch. Game on!
Benchmark Results: Synthetics
Let's begin our benchmarks with the synthetics:
3DMark doesn't favor the Pentium G6950 overclock more than the dual-core Phenom II overclock. It does seem to appreciate multiple CPU cores, though, and the Phenom II X2 555 bests the competition when all four cores are operational.
The PCMark tests demonstrate favoritism for the overclocked and core-unlocked Phenom II X2 555. The overclocked Pentium G6950 also makes a good showing here.
The overclocked and core-unlocked Phenom II X2 555 bests the Core i5-750 in four out of the five CPU metrics. However, when operated in the standard dual-core configuration, this synthetic benchmark greatly prefers the overclocked Pentium G6950 over the dual-core Phenom II X2 555.
