Now You Can Take Google Glass Photos Just by Winking

As far as Google is concerned, Google Glass is perfect for video calling, walking directions, and taking point-of-view photos of your day-to-day life. But, with Google Glass in the hands of developers, we're starting to see what this platform is really capable of. For example, one newly developed application allows you to take photographs with only a wink.

Dubbed Winky, the application was developed by Mike DiGiovanni who announced its release via Google+ at roughly 07:30 this morning. DiGiovanni writes that while taking pictures with Google Glass was easy before, the addition of the winking gesture changes things.

"You might not think it's hard to say 'Ok, Glass Take a Picture' or even just tap a button,' he wrote, "But it's a context switch that takes you out of the moment, even if just for a second. Winking lets you lifelog with little to no effort. I've taken more pictures today than I have the past 5 days thanks to this. Sure, they are mostly silly, but my timeline has now truly become a timeline of where I've been."

While DiGiovanni reckons winking is a positive addition to Google Glass, those already creeped out by the device and the relative ease with which users can capture photo and video will no doubt find it a little bit unsettling.

DiGiovanni has released Winky as source code (get it here). Let us know if you end up trying it out.

Tell me I'm the only one who thought "porn" when I read "point-of-view photos"!

They're probably not worried too much about how high quality the photos are if they're taking them with Google Glass and not a real camera. Taking photos on your phone and putting them on Instagram does not make you a photographer.

I'm more curious how this differentiates between a wink and a blink if the unit only covers one eye. Cool little app.

Welcome to the beginnings of all technology ever? If you want to feel like the super-rich, I think I can find a fairly cheap Betamax player for you.

A lot less embarrassing that saying "Glass take picture" every time a pretty girl walks by.

I like this idea, I just hope it can tell the difference between a wink and when I am blinking.
