Download Tokens For 'Gears of War' Series Starts December 1

In August, Microsoft announced that those who bought Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, which was the remastered version of the original game, would get the rest of the games in the series as a download if they played the game on Xbox Live between August 25 and December 31. This was due to the backwards compatibility feature, which came out alongside the New Xbox One Experience. Now, the company is doling out more details of when fans can expect the rest of the Gears of War games.

Starting on December 1, some users should expect a token in their emails linked to their Xbox One account. This will enable them to download the other games to the console. However, it's important to note that not all eligible players will get the token that day, as the December 1 data marks the first wave of distribution. More tokens should come in the following weeks, but no other specific dates were revealed.

The window for eligibility closes on December 31, which gives those who got the game (as well as the console) on Black Friday enough time to play online to get the additional four titles. Those who play online on New Year's Eve will obviously still be able to get the extra games, but Microsoft said that they would have to wait a few more weeks until their tokens are available.
