NEC announces high-end 21.3" LCD

NEC announced it will begin shipping a new high-end, amorphous silicon thin film transistor liquid crystal display in sample numbers next month. The new model targets usage scenarios such as digital photo editing, digital pre-press operation and various types computer design work. According to NEC, the new model supports Adobe's RGB technology, which is considered to be the standard color space in the professional color processing fields.

The monitor is equipped with a high luminance RGB LED array as the light source of the back-light system. In combination with the firm's proprietary super-advanced super-fine TFT technology, (SA-SFT) NEC says that the display achieves ultra-wide color gamut of 109 percent for Adobe RGB in the area ratio of CIE XYZ chromaticity diagrams. Brightness is rated at 230 cd/m2; the viewing angle is 170 degrees, according to NEC. Pricing and commercial availability of the display was not released. (THG)
