The launch of the Hitachi Global Storage Technology (HGST) 7K1000 one Terabyte (1 TB) hard disk drive (HDD) marks a major milestone for the storage industry not only for the capacity of the drive but also for the changing dynamics in the HDD industry, according to market research iSuppli.Later this quarter HGST will launch its $399 SATA Deskstar 7K1000 for the retail market, which should make it the first 1 TB HDD to hit the market.
