The need for mass data storage exploded in the 1990s, and one of the companies that rode the crest of that wave was US based EMC. One of the most consistently successful companies in the mass data storage market, EMC seemed poised to continue on a path of success well into the new millennium. With the technology downturn of 2001-2002, the pace slowed, and EMC recognized the need to re-organize as a company. Under the leadership of president and CEO Joe Tucci, EMC proceeded to diversify its offerings and increase its range of services.
