Epson today expanded its printer product line with two new products that offers users photo printing functions and the functionality to directly print onto the surface of CDs and DVDs.
The Stylus Photo R220 is able to print picture sizes in 4x6, 5x7, 8x10, and 8.5x 11 formats. According to the manufacturer a 4x6 print in "borderless lab quality" can be printed in 57 seconds. The maximum resolution provided by the six-color (CcMmYK) printer is 5760 x 1440 dpi in "optimized" mode. Text sprinting speed is 15 pages per minute both in black and white as well as in color. Pricing for the R220 is set at $100.
For $200, the Stylus Photo R340 is positioned as a PC-free printer that extends the R220's feature set with a 2.4" LCD preview monitor. Users can utilize the display to select, crop and print favorite photos in full color without the need of a separate computer.
