Intel's HD Audio PC Sound Ambitions

Software, Continued

The most interesting feature is certainly the presence of a ten-band graphic equalizer with preset memory and the option of storing your own correction curves. Moreover, there is a karaoke function that makes it possible to remove the voice of the singer and just retain the accompaniment - that's the theory anyway. The effectiveness of this feature ranges from excellent to really awful, depending on the type of recording.

It should also be noted that the Realtek software makes it possible to manage the S/PDIF output, which is a rare feature in mainstream products.

In addition to these two audio management programs, Intel also bundles - on the CD supplied to us with the motherboard - WinDVD Creator and Intervideo's Home Theater Silver, which enable you to create your DVDs and read almost all current media, including DVDs of course. Unfortunately, we were not really able to evaluate all this. An incompatibility problem (despite a configuration that had nothing weird about it and our attempts to upgrade it) prevented the normal operation of this software.

The installation of a separate version of WinDVD enabled us to perform playback tests on DVDs, and the results were very satisfactory.
