Samsung Confirms Galaxy Note 2 Announcement for August

Samsung's Galaxy Note (pictured) is a big phone, but it's also proved pretty popular in the 10ish months it's been available. For the last few weeks, we've been rumors that Samsung was preparing to announce a new version of the Note this month and it seems those rumors were true. Samsung this week revealed that we would indeed be seeing the new Note at the end of this month.

Reuters reports that the South Korean company will unveil the creatively-named Galaxy Note 2 on August 29 at its Samsung Mobile Unpacked event. Speaking to the news outlet a Samsung spokesperson said: "We plan to unveil the next Galaxy Note at the Samsung Mobile Unpacked event in Berlin on August 29.

The Unpacked event will take place two days before the opening of tech trade-show IFA and it won't be the first time we've seen Samsung use an Unpacked event to debut new hardware. The company took the wraps off of the Galaxy SIII at its Samsung Mobile Unpacked 2012 event in London this past May.

Though details on the Note 2 are slim on the ground, we do know it will have a faster processor. There's also talk of a bigger screen, but we're not sure you can go bigger than 5.3 inches (the current Note) without entering Galaxy Tab territory. Still, we'll keep you posted on any rumors we hear and we'll see you back here on August 29!

Read the article before commenting. It states 10ish months. Most phones get updated every 10-12 months, just like the iPhone, galaxy line, etc.

This is the one thing I love about Android is that new phones come frequently in all sizes and choices, whereas with Apple, you only have one choice, with only one new phone a year. It you don't like the small phone or it is uncomfortable to hold, or left handed, where they still don't give an option to unlock the phone from right to left (Seriously Apple!); there is always next year to wait for.

As long as the phone comes out with a good screen. If rumors of a 720p screen are true, I'm going to hurt a samsung exec.

I am feeling the same as you. Major reason leaving Apple behind after 3gs.
It's the same freaking phone over and over and over again, do you guys not tire of it? "Same" hardware and "same" software.

Following is my gf's reaction going from iPhone 4 to iPhone 4S, "OMG, yes brand new phone... 2 days later and then she realizes it's exactly the 'same' phone".
She got bored after 2 days with iPhone 4S, she's looking at Galaxy Note or Note 2 as a PDA that can make phone calls.

wtb a train in plan.. just got my Note 3 months a go Q_Q

this new one better come with android 4.1, quad cpu with 200mhz bump over the S3, 2GB ram and HD screen.

One more thing that I would love is duel micro USB input, thats right, DUEL, as in two, reason is.. I want to connect:
    1) power source cable
    2) HDMI output
    3) trio (3) usb input for mouse\keyboard\disk on key
and a good stand wont be a bad addition either, and possible a case with a keyboard.

yes, its a convertible mini laptop phone tablet ish thing\device, and it kicks aaaaasssss

I repeat, the current note is perfect. Any bigger it would not fit my pockets. Gorilla glass would be a nice touch.

If this were coming to AT&T in the next few months I'd almost certainly upgrade to it. I don't understand the whole "If the screen is only 720p it's BS" attitude...it has just about the same pixel density as my Atrix 4G and (presumably) isn't a Pentile display, and I've never felt the need for a sharper screen on my current phone. I also don't get the whole "only losers use big cellphones" argument...if you're talking on a smartphone, any smartphone, you have a freaking computer smooshed up against your face! That kind of makes all of us losers. :-P
