The adapter socket is not much to look at. An extra power supply delivers the juice to the processor that the old Socket 423 can no longer supply. The upgrade socket is plugged into the processor socket on the motherboard, while the CPU migrates to the upgrade socket. The sandwich is made complete by a processor cooler included in the package, as the new construction is too high to be served by a conventional fan.
