UK's Dixons.co.uk Set to Close October 9

Goodbye old friend.

UK retailer Dixons has announced plans to kill off its online presence, with Dixons.co.uk to close today. Back in June, it emerged that Dixons, owner of PC World and Currys, was expected to close numerous locations around the UK. This was in addition to the 50 stores it had already closed in the year leading up to that. Now it seems the company's online store is going, too.

According to the Next Web, Currys and PC World will retain their online brands, and Dixons is also holding onto Dixons Travel, the concessions located at certain airports. TNW says Dixons.co.uk will cease trading on Tuesday, October 9.

Aside from owning PC World, Currys (and the mashup 2-in-1 Currys & PC World Megastores), Dixons also owns Europe-wide online electronics dealer PIXmania. Founded in 2000, PIXmania serves a total of 26 nations. Dixons purchased a majority share (77 percent) of the website in 2006.

    Dixons was an awful company. PC world is a rip off staffed by people that know nothing about computers and the Currys "mega" store is a show room to view the TV before you get it from elsewhere.
    For the people in the USA, you'll never find a better examples of British awful awful customer service.

    Pixmania has ok prices, but has the incredibly annoying habit of adding things to your cart you didn't asked for (membership card and extended warranties...things like that)

    I'd rather not buy from them.

    the main reason i stopped buying from them was due to the internet. Everything was cheaper.

    and if you walked into the shop the CPU would be even more expensive.

    and don't get me started on the customer service!
