Report: Toshiba to Launch Blu-ray Player

We all remember the great format war that was HD DVD versus Blu-ray, and we all know how it turned out. However, it seems Toshiba could finally be about to concede defeat and release a Blu-ray player later this year.

Citing Japanese newspaper Yomiuri Shimbun, PC World reports that, exactly a year and five months after Toshiba ended the HD format work, the Toshiba has confirmed plans to adopt the Blu-ray format.

With the integration of Blu-ray players in laptops, game consoles and HDTVs it's not exactly shocking to hear Toshiba plans to release a player of its own, especially when you consider the company's position as a top consumer electronics manufacturer. That said, it'll be interesting to see how the company handles the launch and what kind of player (or players) it comes out with.
