Alongside the 80 Helium and the 50c Oxygen, Archos on Thursday showed off a pair of budget-friendly smartphones ahead of Mobile World Congress.
Though one of the main focuses of Archos’ MWC lineup is ‘affordable,’ the 64 Xenon and 40b Titanium are definitely the lower end devices in this lot. The Archos 64 Xenon packs a Mediatek MT6592 SoC with quad-core CPU clocked to 1.7 GHz and Mali 400MP2 graphics. Its display measures a whopping 6.4-inches and the device includes 1 GB of RAM, just 4 GB of onboard storage (plus support for MicroSD), an 8-megapixel camera with a 2-megapixel lens up front, support for HSPA+, Bluetooth 3.0, WiFi, and a 2800 mAh battery. The device will cost $200 when it does go on sale (Archos hasn’t said when that will be).
Though that battery pack is bigger than the battery powering the beefier 50c Oxygen, the display on the Xenon is much bigger (6.4-inch display vs 5-inch display). Aside from battery, the specs aren’t much to write home about, about level with the Moto G, which was released last November and costs $20 less.
Next up is the 40b Titanium. That device packs a Mediatek MT6572 SoC with a dual-core CPU clocked to 1.3 GHZ and Mali 400 graphics. It also boasts a 4-inch display with a 800 x 480 resolution, 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB of storage (plus MicroSD support), a 5-megapixel camera, a front-facing VGA camera, and support for HSPA+, WiFi, and Bluetooth 3.0. It uses a 1400 mAh battery and will cost $119. Again, the specs aren’t exactly mind blowing, but this is a very budget-friendly device, so the specs were never going to be outrageously good.
