MWC 2015: Archos Reveals Tablet With 256 GB, 'Fusion Storage'

On Monday during Mobile World Congress 2015 in Barcelona, Archos introduced a new proprietary technology called "Fusion Storage." Essentially, what this tech does is combine the storage of an added microSD card with the tablet's built-in internal storage. In this case, the technology is being used on the company's fresh-off-the-press Magnus tablets as well as upcoming smartphones and tablets. Select models will also become Fusion Storage capable by way of over-the-air software updates.

"Once activated, Archos Fusion Storage automatically migrates data from the microSD card and optimizes memory balance, resulting in an increase in install space for apps and games, as well as more storage for media and large files," the press release states.

In addition to the Fusion Storage tech, Archos revealed the Magnus tablet lineup, which features the first tablet to sport 256 GB of internal storage. This new series includes the Archos 101 Magnus, the Archos 94 Magnus and the Archos 101 Magnus Plus. All three are based on Android 4.4 KitKat and cost $179, $349 and $349, respectively.

As for the specifications, the 101 Magnus includes a Mediatek MT8127 quad-core processor clocked at 1.3 GHz, a Mali 450 MP4 GPU, a 10.1-inch screen with a 1024 x 600 resolution, 1 GB of RAM, 64 GB of internal storage, a 2MP camera on the back and a VGA camera on the front. The device also includes a 4000 mAh battery, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, and a microSD card slot supporting up to 128 GB of storage.

Of the three tablets, the Archos 94 Magnus has the largest internal capacity of 256 GB, and that's not including the microSD card slot supporting up to 128 GB of storage. The specifications show that this model has a Rockchip RK3288 processor clocked at 1.8 GHz, a Mali T764 GPU, a 9.4-inch IPS screen with a 1280 x 800 resolution and 1.5 GB of memory. Other hardware details include a 5MP camera on the front and a VGA camera on the back, a 6400 mAh battery, and more.

Finally, we have the Archos 101 Magnus Plus. This model has a Rockchip RK3288 processor clocked at 1.8 GHz, a Mali T764 GPU, and a 10.1-inch IPS screen with a spiffy 1920 x 1200 resolution. Other hardware specifications include 2 GB of RAM, 128 GB of internal storage, a 5MP camera on the back and a 2MP camera on the front, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, a microSD card slot supporting 128 GB of storage and a 7000 mAh battery.

The specifications also show that the Archos 101 Magnus Plus tablet measures just 0.39 inches, whereas the Archos 94 Magnus measures 0.39 inches and the Archos 101 Magnus measures 0.47 inches.

According to Archos, the 101 Magnus Plus and Archos 101 Magnus are expected to hit the market in April 2015. The Archos 94 Magnus will be available next month as well, but the tablet will only be sold on the Archos website.

"The device also includes a 400 mAh battery..."
    " a 700 mAh battery."
Not very useful if the batteries only last a few minutes at best, unless they have some magic power management.

From reading Archos' press release, I think you mean 4000mAh and 7000mAh.

I use an RK3288 on my tv box, and it's an impressive little chip.. at least for tablets in the $150-200 range.

See the problem is "TomsHardware" doesn't care any more if it doesn't have a little fruit pictured on the device somewhere they could give a **** less about checking what they write!

Horrible specs for the money. Those low end CPU's have poor software supports, as many developers, do not spend time adding proper hardware acceleration for them, thus you end up with a device that is only supporting hardware acceleration for probably 1 format.

Or some form of it. It's nice to see someone finally making good use of additional space provided my SD cards.

@Razor512, speaking from experience, I have an 8 core MediaTek phone and it can run everything my Galaxy S4 can.

there are not high-end tabletes like the ipad mini retina and the nouvel ipad air, even the Archos 101 Magnus Plus the higher, but they have good prices, the inly thing that consumers hope is that they would have good performances
