They're not the type of 3d glasses you get in a movie theater.

There are two basic types of 3D. The first uses two projectors and polarization filters to project two different images onto a screen. Those cheap 3D glasses you get at the theater block different polarizations in each lens, allowing your left eye to see one image and your right eye a different image, creating the illusion of depth.

"Home" 3d--the kind people are buying 3D TVs for works differently. Instead of having two different projected images, all the images come from the same display. 3D content is played back at 120hz (120fps), twice the rate of normal video playback, but the frames for the left and right eye alternate. With this method, you wear much more expensive 3D glasses which actively sync with the video to alternate blocking vision to your left and right eye. Basically, it's like looking through two tiny LCD screens that switch between clear and black so fast you don't notice it. Because the content is played at 120 fps, but only half of those frames make it to either eye in a given second, each eye is still effectively receiving 60fps.

Those glasses listed above are for the SECOND type of 3d, which is why they are so expensive. You'll find that most 3d glasses which are used with the second type of 3d are at least that expensive.
