Elpida jumps into consumer electronics DRAM business

Elpida announced today that it will offer a 512 Megabit DDR Digital Consumer DRAM device that specifically targets consumer electronics applications. The memory differs from regular DRAM through lower power consumption. Power savings are promised to be about 30 percent when compared to regular DDR DRAM, which was achieved "by re-designing the circuitry using advanced 90 nm process technology," Elpida said.

The consumer memory is expected to enter volume production in October of this year. (THG)
