Color Inkjet Printers From HP
HP Business Inkjet 1200d
This is one of the few printers in this buyer's guide that enters our field from the ranks of business (office) equipment. As such, it's something more of a workhorse than other printers you'll find here (and at a retail price of $200, it is also somewhat more expensive than most of them as well). What you get in return for this extra outlay is a somewhat faster speed (up to 28 ppm in draft black mode, 24 ppm in draft color mode and 10 ppm in other higher-quality modes) and a 6,250 page monthly duty cycle (more than double than what most of the other printers covered here offer).
The 1200d from HP is a thoroughly businesslike inkjet printer.
Print quality is up to 1200x600 dpi for black output, and up to 4800x1200 for color photos (1200x1200 dpi, with four separate color jets). The 1200d also offers an optional second paper tray, and can handle up to 400 sheets of plain paper (150 sheets for the standard tray and 250 for the second tray). It also does double-sided printing, and can handle letter, legal and executive size paper as well as No. 10 and monarch envelopes. The unit includes a sizable 36 MB of RAM (much more than most other printers in this buyer's guide), and it offers both USB and parallel port attachments for computer hook-ups. It also features a built-in 802.11g wireless interface for wireless network access
Consumable prices range from $25 to $39 for color cartridges (cyan, magenta, and yellow) and from $25 to $34 for black cartridges (higher prices deliver higher quality or print quantities, depending on products selected). Special treated glossy photo paper (water- and smudge-proof) costs about $0.40 for 8.5x11" sheets and $0.25 for 5x7" sheets. This printer also works with all modern versions of Windows since 98SE plus Mac OS X 9.1 and later versions.
Those who work in a SOHO situation, or whose print needs exceed more than 200 pages per month will probably find a lot to like about the HP Business Inkjet 1200d.
