Kingston HyperX KHX14400D2K2-2G (DDR3-1800)
The HyperX series by Kingston has been another popular brand for enthusiast memory. Kingston and Crucial are traditional players in the upgrade market, but they've been working on strengthening their enthusiast brands as well. Whether you prefer blue or orange, Kingston clearly has the more impressive appearance, as the metal cover, which is on top of the aluminum heat spreader, reminds in a blade. We also liked that Kingston provides a very technical and complete data sheet for this product on its website.
We received the HyperX KHX14400D2K2-2G, which stands for a 2 GB dual module PC3-14400 DDR3-1800 memory kit. Although we missed timing information again, the label at least includes the kit's total capacity ("2G") and the PC3-14400 speed grade, which you can use to obtain the real memory interface frequency of 1800 MHz by dividing the throughput grade by eight. The DIMMs are rated at CL8-8-8-24 and specified to run at 1.9 V, which remained valid in our tests up to the maximum overclocked memory speed of DDR3-1900. Along with Chaintech and Crucial this was the only DDR3 memory product in this roundup to reach this speed.
Kingston also offers ultra low latency DDR3 rated at CL5-7-5-15 at up to DDR3-1375 speeds and 1.8 V. These might be a nice option in case you don't want to overclock the hell out of your system.
