As already mentioned, the 100 GB version is faster when it comes to data transfer rates, but inferior to its 40 GB brother in access time and I/O performance. While the difference in access time is small enough to completely disregard it, the I/O performance difference is quite considerable.

We suppose the reason for this can be found in the larger cache memory, which seems to spoil the I/O numbers quite a bit. Again, for notebook use this won't make any noticeable difference, but server applications might show some impact depending on whether you deploy the 40 GB or the 100 GB drives. Still, sadly for Toshiba, we would recommend going for 7,200 RPM 2.5" drives instead of either of the options reviewed here.
