NEC announces consumer desktop and multimedia LCDs

NEC today unveiled its new MultiSync CX line of consumer desktop LCD monitors at the Digital Life Expo conference. The 17" 1740CX and the 19" 1940CX are targeted at the mainstream market, offer an 8 ms response time and will be available in November for $300 and $400, respectively. The company did not provide further technical details about the new monitors.

NEC also announced a new product series that will focus on multimedia and entertainment applications. The three initial models, the 17" 70GX, the 19" 90GX and the 20" 20WMGX, integrate enhanced screens that promise sharp images and "vivid" colors as well as response timed of 4 ms, NEC claims (6 ms for the 20WMGX). The high-end 20" model offers a contrast ratio of 1600:1 and integrates a TV tuner. The 17" and 19" devices are rated at a 700:1 contrast ratio.

Pricing for the 70GX is $400 (70GX) and $500 for the 90GX. The price of the 20WMGX model has not been released.
