Wiki, Malware and Technopreneur enter Oxford English Dictionary
Next newsThe Oxford English Dictionary has released its latest update, and new words entering the lexicon officially for the first time include "wiki", "malware" and "technopreneur."
OED editor John Simpson explained the move in a statement: "Words are included in the dictionary on the basis of the documentary evidence that we have collected about them. A while ago this evidence suggested that wiki was starting to make a name for itself."
The word wiki originates in Hawaii, where "wiki wiki" means "quickly". "That the word acquired a new meaning is attributed to the fact that commenting and editing on internet websites became faster," OED's chief editor said.
