Friday Blizzard announced the trial edition of World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, the latest expansion for its highly-popular MMORPG. To participate, gamers must have World of Warcraft and the first two expansions--The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King--already installed. Sorry, this isn't a stand-alone demo.
"During your free trial, you'll undertake epic new quests, explore the reshaped and newly discovered lands of Azeroth, and see the world from a whole new perspective as one of the shape-changing worgen or crafty goblins," Blizzard said. "Note that a character of at least level 78 is required to explore the new, high-level zones."
Launched on December 7, the long-awaited expansion sold 3.3 million copies within the first 24 hours, taking the opening day sales crown from Wrath of the Lich King which sold 2.8 million copies within the same time period.
"We want to thank all of our new, existing, and returning players throughout the world for their incredible enthusiasm and support, and we look forward to hearing what they think about all the new content," said Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime in a statement.
