A Comparison of 34 Coolers for the AMD Athlon XP
Cooljag JVC652A
The JVC652A is a cooler made exclusively from aluminum whose fins have been created using so-called "skived fin technology."
During the skiving process, an aluminum block is cut horizontally into thin layers/ facings, which are then arranged in such a way as to create a cooler profile. This manufacturing process is very cost-effective, and the aluminum sections produced have a very large surface area, as the fins and clearances between them, the pitch, are only about 1.3 millimeters thick. Furthermore, the sections have an improved thermal conductivity, since the fins are part of the base plate and were not added subsequently.
The test results achieved by the JVC652A were correspondingly good. The thermal resistance stood at 0.44°C/W; the maximum die temperature was measured at 53°C. The JVC652A is living proof of the fact that it is possible to construct a highly-efficient and acoustically relatively inconspicuous (50dB (A)) cooler out of aluminum.
