Faster and Faster, nForce2: The Latest Boards Put to the Test

Soltek SL-75FRN

Board Revision: D

BIOS Version: 1.2L (May 6, 2003)

Soltek sent us two motherboards for our test. One of these featured the IGP chip and an integral graphic unit (SL-75MRN), while the other featured the SPP (SL-75FRN).

The SL-75FRN is a model that is not yet capable of supporting the accelerated FSB clock rate of 400 MHz. This is irrelevant, however, as the new processor does not offer a great deal more power compared to the top models with 333 MHz FSB, and also because the prices are still very high at the moment.

The equipment is state-of-the-art. In addition to the features of the MCP, Soltek also integrates a 20376 from Promise, which offers a third UltraATA/ 133 channel and two serial ATA ports. The sound system and 100 MBit network controller are obligatory features.

The board comes complete with a host of useful software such as PC-Cillin 2002 (Anti Virus), VirtualDrive 7, RestoreIT! 3 Lite, Partition Magic 6.0 SE and DriveImage 4.0 - what you might call a full-care package for your entire system. The user manual is in English and complete - but that's about it. Soltek does not supply an extensive range of accessories and adapters like MSI and Epox. This does, however, affect the price.
