The Gigabyte GA-8KNXP is fundamentally different from the Ultra version, in that the Ultra 320-SCSI controller is not integrated. The completely divergent PCB layout shows that Gigabyte has not just made cosmetic changes.
Compared to the top version GA-8KNXP Ultra, the GA-8KNXP additionally has an integrated Serial-ATA RAID controller from Silicon Image (Sil 3112A) and a FireWire chip from TI. Otherwise, the equipment is identical to that of the Ultra version. Accessories include four Serial-ATA cables, and an optional Serial-ATA card is available for external operation. In terms of performance, the GA-8KNXP is virtually identical to the wickedly expensive Ultra version.
Perfect for connecting external hard disks.
Comfortable BIOS update through Windows XP.
