US lawmakers aim to ban export of DUV chipmaking and etching tools to leading firms in China — bipartisan proposal would ban lithography equipment for Huawei, SMIC, and others

A bipartisan group of U.S. senators has proposed a new law that would impose an almost blanked ban on exports of advanced wafer fabrication equipment (WFE) to select entities in adversary nations, a rule that would complement the existing fab-based bans. If imposed, leading China-based chipmakers like CXMT, Hua Hong, SMIC, and YMTC would lose the ability to procure advanced tools for outdated fabs and use them to advance their leading-edge facilities.

Too little, too late, and while they want all the ASML machines they can get, homegrown DUV could be working within the next couple of years:

Yeah, give it a few years, and US lawmakers will be begging for Chinese DUV tech.

It's not like we haven't seen this cycle before with US automakers, Boeing, etc.

Nah. I think people in this space already have a good idea of their tech. If companies don't need the latest and greatest, possibly less expensive options seem like a possibly smart thing to investigate.

I’m curious whether these lawmakers considered the shoe being on the other foot in the near future. We’ve squandered all of our goodwill lately. 😐

Maybe for ASML is better to export to China, and if USA want to ban import to US, so be it.
Eu should respond, US sanctions - US problem.
