ATI Radeon 5870 Card Has 2 GB, 6 Ports

After moving into a new office and watching interference slowly wave up and down the two LCD monitors (wasn't there before), the first thing that came to mind was, "man there needs to be a new graphics card in this rig." As if reading those very thoughts, Softpedia prints up an article featuring an ATI Radeon HD 5870 graphics card with 2 GB of GDDR5 memory and... get this... 6 DisplayPort ports!

Yep, that's right. Consumers can hook up six DisplayPort displays, making one heck of a desktop that could fill an entire wall thanks to the company's ATI Eyefinity technology. Apparently, the card uses the same dual-slot cooling solution as the reference HD 5870 model too, with the six display ports mounted just under the card's cooler exhaust.

Softpedia also reports that the new model has acquired an 8-pin and 6-pin PCI-e power connector setup. It also sports 1,600 Stream processors as seen with the HD 5870, however the GPU and memory clock speeds have been altered to 850 MHz and 4,8000 MHz, respectively.

Unfortunately, as of this writing, the new model isn't exactly official, nor is there any mention of availability or pricing. We're crossing our fingers that it ships soon, just in time for the long hours of PC gaming during the holidays. Like Gollum says in the LOTR trilogy, we's wants its, my precious.

We don't know at this point whether all 10 outputs can be used at the same time.

however the GPU and memory clock speeds have been altered to 850 MHz and 4,8000 MHz, respectively.

Hmmmmm....Would it be for gaming, commercial applications, or watching ten different sporting events at the same time?

I don't get it. It has 10 ports... but only 6 visible ones????????? Or do you mean you have two cards, one w/ 6 DisplayPorts and another card in Xfire w/ the standard DVI, HDMI, and w/e that other port is. This was not a very well defined article, I'm confused.

this was unclear to me.....are there 10 ports on a single PCB with 2 GB ram? The 2 pictures above show a single board with only 6 display ports and the other just looks like 2 5870's sitting on top of eachother...one eyefinity edition, one regular

Working on a multiscreen app, playing a game, watching a movie, watching 3 different games, and perhaps having a few pictures to look at.

Both pictures are of 5870's - there's only one GPU on the bottom picture, and the top picture is clearly two cards.

This is pretty sweet if you have $5000 for displays. But, with a memory clock of 48000 MHz...geez. lol.

    4,8000 MHz? So 48.000 GHz!? That's awesome.

"come on down ladies and gentelmen and see our new 10 port graphics card! thats right, you heard correctly, thats 6 ports! 6 PORTS! thats 5 times as many as the standard 4 port card! so if your in the market for a gfx cards and 9 ports just isn't enough, this 6 port monster is for you!! the addition of 2GB of memory means memory speed has been reduced slightly to 48Ghz but don't let that stop you from enjoying up to 10 monitors connected to this 6 port card!!"
