AMD Releases Value-Oriented Athlon II X2 280
AMD releases an old Athlon II based CPU intended for entry level desktops
AMD's older series of Athlon IIs aren't going out a service yet with the release of the "new" Regor Chip with a large lithographic size of 45 nm. The CPU is built for the AM3 socket and therefore also compatible with the AM2, AM2+, AM3 and AM3+.
The CPU is based on AMD's K10.5 architecture, and the chip's cores run at an impressive 3.6 GHz, accompanied by 1MB of L2 cache per core. The integrated memory controller supports both dual channel DDR2 and DDR3. The TDP is rated at just 65W which bodes well for economic use.
Pricing is set at an MSRP of just $49.99

merikafyeah $50? I'd rather spend a little more and get a much better processor. There are often great deals on superior Phenom II X4s and X6s.Reply

I could be wrong, but I don't think he was trolling. I laughed at his pun anyway. But I do agree it's good that they're releasing a new Budget CPU, even if it likely doesn't stand a chance again Intel's budget offering. But what AMD really needs to do is get the Athlon II X4 750K out. -

It's called getting rid of old inventory (it even supports DDr2!). Better to sell it for a bargain price than to toss it into the dumpster. -
