UK Consumers to Get Another Shot at Nexus 4 at 5pm

When Google's Nexus 4 smartphone went on sale a fortnight ago, it sold out extremely quickly. Those in the United States got a second shot at nabbing a Nexus 4 last week and Canadians got their turn yesterday afternoon. Now, it's the UK's turn.

Google has announced that the device will be back in the UK Google Play Store and on sale from 5pm today. As was the case with the fresh stock for the U.S., this news is apparently being emailed out to those that asked to be kept up-to-date with Nexus 4 happenings. If you want a Nexus 4 and don't want to have to turn to alternative channels, act fast. If the U.S. and Canadian markets are anything to go by, this new stock won't last long. Expect the cheaper 8 GB model (£239) to sell out first and the 16 GB (£279) version to go soon after.

Developed in collaboration with LG (a first for the South Korean company), the Nexus 4 packs a 4.7-inch 1280x768 IPS display (320 ppi), Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4 CPU, 2GB of RAM, 8GB or 16GB of storage, an 8-megapixel camera (1.3-megapixel camera up front), a 2,100mAh Li-Polymer battery, NFC, and Android 4.2. Unfortunately, the phone doesn't have support for 4G LTE (though recent reports say it can be forced onto some Canadian 4G networks), nor does it allow for external storage via MicroSD, which means you're stuck with the capacity you choose at check out.

I was looking at getting the Nexus 4 because I really liked the idea of stock, barebones Andriod. The lack of 4G LTE and a MicroSD card slot were the nails in the coffin for me though. It just lacked the added functionality that almost every other competitive phone offers. For years people ragged on the iPhone 4 and 4S for missing the same features this phone is missing.

With that said, the Nexus 4 is a killer phone for the price. $300 with no contract is amazing for a top-tier smartphone. I just got a Galaxy Note 2 this past weekend and it was $300 WITH a contract. Here's to hoping that Google can make miracles happen with the features and price of the Nexus 5 when it comes out.

Chances are they will do the same thing they are doing in the States. Rather than "Out of Stock" and unable to order, they will take orders and say something like Ships in 5-6 weeks.

Hey, they are back in Germany as well!
But yes, similar to in America; a 4-5 week lead time to ship :(
Only 1-2 weeks for the UK; not to bad at all.

I got this ALL DAY yesterday trying to order one. Never managed to get it, yet a friend had his order go through first time. I agree -- Google have royally screwed up the ordering.
