ZTE Announces High-End Grand S Smartphone

ZTE has officially announced its high-end, 5-inch full HD Grand S smartphone during CES 2013.

The Grand S' 5-inch full HD touch screen features 440 PPI (pixels per-inch) and is built out of Corning Gorilla Glass. The handset, compatible with 4G LTE, will launch with Android Jelly Bean. Powering it is a 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 processor and 2 GB of RAM, with the device boasting 16 GB of internal storage.

A 13-megapixel camera is situated on the Grand S' rear, accompanied by a front-facing 2-megapixel camera. The former is capable of shooting 1080p video. Other camera options include facial recognition, a flash and panoramic shooting. Its thin uni-body design, which measures at 6.9mm, prevents the battery from being removable.

The Grand S, which sees ZTE integrating its MiFavor user interface also houses a 1,780 mAh battery, a microSD card slot and Dolby Digital surround sound. The device will be available in two finishes: matte and glossy. The former constitutes of black and white colors, while glossy colors include pink, yellow, red and mint green.

ZTE, which didn't reveal pricing details, will launch the device online in China during the first quarter of 2013, with a U.S. launch following after.

    There's really not much to not like. Except the white color. Anything that could be misconstrued as an Apple product is the only turn off.

    Side-view shows the immense waste of valuable estate under that camera lens lip that could have housed a decent battery. Screen is perfect size and CPU is better at saving power if throttled properly than a dual-core. Even so, such a small capacity battery can not last a day, esp. given the LTE radio. So far, Huawei has a better device (arguably the best presented so far at CES).

    13MP on a cell phone camera and it's $5K? Why not just buy a Galaxy SIII for $200 and a Nikon SLR camera for $2500 and keep the difference? :heink:

    I'm saying it's stupid to pay that much for a smart phone with a good camera - and especially since no matter what carrier you go with, the 4G LTE connection will still suck. :ange:

    That looks pretty cool. Just need to get rid of that bulge by the camera... even if they make the whole thing 1mm thicker.

I just don't get that the market research snow's that consumers would rather have a thinner phone vs. a higher-capacity/removable battery. Samsung is the only top-end maker that is not getting this wrong.
