Corsair released two new SSD models in its budget-friendly Force Series LS SSD line, a 960 GB model and a 480 GB version.
The two new models join the previously-available 240 GB, 120 GB, and 60 GB versions. All SSDs in this series measure 7 mm in Z-height, allowing them to fit into any notebook that accepts 2.5" drives.
The drives feature a SATA 3 (6 Gb/s) interface, and Corsair said they offer up to 560 MBps/540 MBps read/write speeds. Common SSD technologies are in use on the drives such as TRIM and garbage collection, as well as common storage technologies such as S.M.A.R.T. These features should help extend the overall lifespan of the drives.
Corsair also included the Corsair SSD Toolbox software utility with these drives free of charge. This utility contains a number of features combined into one application, such as a firmware update function, and it provides some basic information about the drive. It also allows you to schedule when TRIM will be used to help maintain the SSD.
As an added security feature, Corsair SSD Toolbox has a secure wipe tool for removing all data on the drive.
Corsair estimated that the Force Series LS 960 GB SSD will sell for about $379.99, while the Force Series LS 480 GB SSD should cost around $189.99. The SSDs are now available worldwide.
