'Final Fantasy IX' Finally Available On PC

Another installation in the Final Fantasy series is finally available for PC. Sixteen years after its initial release, you can purchase Final Fantasy IX on Steam.

This latest addition puts the total number of Final Fantasy games on Steam to 14 titles. The Steam version of Final Fantasy IX also includes some extra features such as achievements (85 total), an autosave system, HD cinematics and characters, and certain enhancements to the base game such as a high-speed mode or a “no encounters” experience.

However, there are still a few missing parts from the franchise’s main series. Final Fantasy X and X-2 were recently relaunched on the PlayStation 4 and Vita as an “HD Remaster” makeover. There’s also no word on Final Fantasy XII (my personal favorite), which is still available as a PlayStation 2 title only.

However, we might not see additional HD releases of old titles for quite some time, as a new Final Fantasy title is on the way. Last month, Square Enix finally confirmed that Final Fantasy XV is on its way later this year, on September 30. The Japanese company seems to be putting its best foot forward with its latest project. In addition to the game, there will also be a CG-animated film and a short anime series on YouTube. You’ll also be able to play the Final Fantasy XV mini-game, Justice Monsters V, on your Android, iOS or Windows devices.

As for Final Fantasy IX, the PC release offers another chance for fans to relive some of their earlier gaming days without having to dust off old consoles. The game will cost you $20.99, but it’s available with a 20 percent discount until April 20.

Probably the most underrated FF. Really deserves to be talked about more.

Most of the FF series takes a back seat to 7 because for some reason that is teh best one evar!!!!.

Personally I like 6 the best with 8 coming in second then X third. 7 was fun but man did it get over praised.

Glad to see more coming to PC though. Took a while for some (like 6 and older) but it is still nice that I can now play them on Steam instead of hoping my aging NES/SNES/PSX still works.

6 is my favorite, and that seems to be the two equally big camps, those that prefer 6 and those that prefer 7. Between those two, no one seems to say enough about the other good games.

I've never played 7, actually, and I'm kind of thankful for the upcoming remake, because it is reeeeeeeally hard to look at 7 these days. That game has not aged well at all. If you've got your nostalgia goggles on and can look past that, awesome, but for newcomers, boy, that's hard to look at.

I am unreasonably excited about this! Will buy when I get home from work!

Also... FFXII is your favorite? Really? Have you played any other FF title at all? Even the guided walkway of XIII was better.

I think all the Square FF titles were good before Squarenix's FFX-2. My personal favorites are 4, 6, and 10.
