G.SKILL announced a new high capacity DDR4 RAM kit with eight 16 GB DIMMs totaling 128 GB of memory. G.SKILL claims that this is the world's fastest DDR4 128 GB kit.
The RAM utilizes sixteen 8 Gb Samsung ICs on each RAM stick, adding up to 16 GB of storage for each DIMM. The RAM comes clocked at 2800 MHz with timings of CL16-16-16-36 with a power draw of 1.35V for each DIMM. Although DDR4 RAM clocked at 2800 MHz is rather common, and DDR4 RAM clocked at even faster speeds is easy to find, there might be some credibility to G.SKILL's claim.
Searching through numerous sites looking at DDR4 RAM currently available, most DDR4 RAM kits (and individual DDR4 DIMMs) I found utilized 8 GB DIMMs. Although DDR4 RAM kits or individual DIMMs with 16 GB and 32 GB of capacity do exist, they are less common and are harder to find.
Of the DDR4 RAM kits I was able to find that utilized DIMMs of 16 GB or 32 GB capacity, all of them were clocked at 2133 MHz.
These new memory modules from G.SKILL will also be available in more than one kit. The top-end kit will contain eight of the modules with a total capacity of 128 GB. G.SKILL didn't say which other kits will be available, but we can likely expect the typically one, two, and four DIMM kits to come out in the near future.
"During development of these DDR4 16 GB modules, we see amazing future potential for 128 GB (16 GB x 8) memory kits in extreme high capacity operation on upcoming platforms," said Tequila Huang, G.SKILL's Vice President of Research and Development. "We will be witnessing the beginning of a new set of standards for extreme capacity and performance DDR4 memory kits on both current and future computing platforms."
G.SKILL didn't say how much these new RAM kits will cost, but with the high capacity, you should expect it to be one of the pricier DDR4 RAM kits available when it comes out.
