Razer said on Tuesday that its flagship gaming mouse, the Razer Ouroboros, is now available in North American retailers for a hefty $149.99. It's built for both lefties and right-handed PC gamers, packing premium features like customizable ergonomics, an 8200 dpi 4G laser sensor, eleven programmable Hyperesponse buttons and more.
"When creating the Razer Ouroboros, our goal was to design an all-in-one, ultra-performance product," said Min-Liang Tan, Razer co-founder, CEO and creative director. "We achieved that by giving gamers complete control to configure the mouse, from how it will perform in-game to its customizable form factor, ensuring it comfortably fits to specific users. The international media recognized its merits; now, our loyal fans in North America will get that opportunity as well."
Catering to both left-handed and right-handed gamers, the mouse provides an adjustable palm rest for raising and lowering the overall arch, an adjustable rear panel to fit both stubby and elongated piano fingers, a removable finger grip panel and a removable rest panel, the latter two of which can be placed on either side to accommodate all PC gamers. Razer claims that 54 percent of its Ouroboros users have a palm-based grip, whereas 26.5 percent use the claw method and 19.6 percent use the finger tip grip.
The new Razer PC gaming mouse is powered by an ARM-based 32-bit processor, and a rechargeable AA battery promising up to 12 hours of continuous wireless gaming. The peripheral comes with a charging dock that also serves as a wireless receiver. Simply plug it into a USB port to use the Ouroboros as a wireless peripheral and to recharge the batteries while the mouse is switched off and mounted on top. The Ouroboros also has its own USB port so that it can also perform as a wired PC peripheral.
Razer said the new mouse features 1000 Hz Ultrapolling between mouse and computer in either mode, an acceleration of up to 200 inches per second, and bright green lighting on the mouse scroll wheel, battery indicator and side accents. There are eleven buttons total, including several mounted on the sides and along the grip, which can be configured in Razer's Synapse 2.0 desktop software that stores the user's settings in the cloud.
"From Razer's very first gaming mouse to now, our mice buttons are designed to be hair-trigger sensitive," the company said. "This means as soon as you think it, your finger has already mouse clicked it. Utilizing highly durable Omron switches, there is a pronounced tactile feedback to your fingertips with each actuation, so you get the absolute assurance that you're winning with precision."
