The YotaPhone 2, the dual-screen device with an E-ink display on its back, is now available for purchase in North America via a new IndieGoGo campaign.
The first 100 people who want one will get it for $500 plus shipping costs, so you may want to hurry up and get it now. After those spots are filled, you can get it for $525 plus shipping within the first 48 hours. If you miss that deadline as well, the price will jump to $550 plus shipping. However, if you buy two of them, you can have them for $525 each, plus shipping.
Obviously, the main attraction of the phone beyond all the specs is its dual-display capability. One is a regular 5" LCD display with a Full HD resolution, while the other is a 4.7" "Electronic Paper Display" (a generic name for the trademarked E-ink display technology) on the back with a 960 x 540 resolution.
The front display acts like any other touch display you may see on a modern smartphone. The rear electronic ink display works with the whole OS as well, but it seems better suited for showing "always-on information" that you can see at a glance.
Electronic paper displays love static content, as that's the "mode" in which they consume no power. The more static the content, the better for the battery life of the device. The YotaPhone 2's display can also be used for reading ebooks, or checking notifications or news without having to turn on the device's main display every time.

The device also comes with a 2.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage, an 8MP camera on the back, a 2.1MP camera on the front, Bluetooth 4.0, LTE and a 2,500 mAh battery. The device runs Android 5.0, and it comes with a few extra apps such as YotaFitness, YotaRemote and YotaNotes.
The YotaPhone 2 will be shipped to IndieGoGo backers in North America in early August, ahead of the company's general launch there. The company has also partnered with America Movil to bring the YotaPhone 2 to Latin America this summer.
