Barton's Here: Athlon XP 3000+ vs. P4 3.06 GHz

The Test Board: Up Close & Personal

Asus sent us the A7N8X with an nForce 2 chipset for the test again. The testing configuration included an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro (reference card) graphics board and two DDR400 RAM (CL2, 512 MB with PC3200) from Corsair.

The Abit NF7, also with the NVIDIA nForce 2 chipset.

Corsair’s DDR400 modules for CL2 operation with 256 MB capacity are still some of the best types of RAM around.

Our reference board for tests. The appeal of the ATI Radeon 9700 Pro lies in its outstanding performance and relatively quiet operation - unlike the NVIDIA GeForce FX !

While we have an extensive supply of DDR400 modules from various suppliers, the Asus A7N8X works best with the Corsair modules. We have already published details on the NVIDIA nForce 2 chipset in a previous article, Full Power : NVIDIA Attacks With nForce2 .
