Do You Need A New Hard Drive With Your Windows 7 Upgrade?
Benchmark Results: Throughput And Streaming
As already mentioned, the new drive doubled throughput for maximum, average, and especially minimum sequential transfer numbers, delivering up to 128 MB/s vs. 63 MB/s compared to the old Deskstar E7K500. The minimum throughput is 65 MB/s for the 7K2000 and 30 MB/s on the E7K500.
Similar results apply to write performance.
SATA interface performance isn’t very important when it comes to mechanical hard drives (it is with the latest SSDs), and hasn’t changed much.
